Eligibility and timing vary by the case result and statute, so an old public entry cannot be assumed to remain available.
Note: Chapter 132 opens many government records, but it does not override every confidentiality rule that applies to a specific file.

The Sheriff's Office and Detention Center operate around the clock, but that fact does not establish a public release schedule. Watauga State Release Search
NCDAC also provides a monthly Inmate Releases form. It accepts county, year, month, and last-name or Soundex input. Watauga appears as a county choice. Watauga Release and Court Outcomes

A dismissal explains the result of that charge but not the precise jail-door time or another unresolved hold. Likewise, a case marked disposed does not prove that every supervision term ended on that date. An expunction may later limit public access, so the absence of a once-visible case should not be turned into a claim about what occurred.
Watauga Release Supervision and Reentry
Physical release and legal discharge are not the same. OPI's Active Probationer/Parolee setting can identify current North Carolina community supervision when the person and record match. Watauga is part of Community Supervision Judicial District 24. An absconder result means a person is avoiding supervision; it does not prove new custody or completed supervision.

Note: “Not in custody” in one system can be accurate while a second agency still holds or supervises the same person.
Watauga Release Facility History
The present facility map contains one operating jail: the Watauga County Detention Center. The 2023 North Carolina Jail Administrators directory reports a rated capacity of 106. A frequently cited average population of 86 and staffing count of 28 came from a March 2009 county planning snapshot, so those figures describe history rather than current operations.
Watauga Correctional Center is also historical. NCDAC records its closure in December 1998. It must not be treated as a current prison or given a live release route. Nearby state prisons are in other counties, and state placement works statewide rather than through one prison assigned to Watauga County.
